i got out the shower earlier tonight and saw bleacher report post about john cena getting engaged at wrestlemania. i looked up the match card and saw goldberg, brock lesnar, undertaker, and triple h. i was surprised to see them still wrestling, but nonetheless i put it on. i haven’t watched since 5th grade, with the exception of a few wrestlemanias here and there.
i caught triple h entering the ring and i couldn’t believe it. i used to watch him when i was 6 or 7, and now a few weeks from 24 i was watching him wrestle an unfamiliar name. the theatrics and stage set were so grandiose. the ramp itself was a screen display! then they had a ring above the ring! it was nuts. triple h was escorted by police with stephanie mcmahon to the ring. he even did his famous water spitting. i used to waste bottles of water as an 8 year-old spitting out water pretending i was him. it was like i was a kid again. later in the night, the undertaker appeared to retire after a loss to some guy i’ve never heard about. it’s wild how time passes, i used to love watching these guys. a good portion of my childhood, i grew up glued to the television screen on mondays and thursdays. i used to want to be the rock so bad. although i’m no longer emotionally invested into wrestling anymore, it was sad to see the undertaker place his gloves, coat, and hat in the middle of the ring last night and walk off. i couldn’t imagine how that felt.
all good things must come to an end, i guess.
