covid chronicles, 5.4.22

dad tested positive for covid yesterday. i’ve never seen him sick before, and it’s scary. he says he is fine, but that’s because he’s strong. it’s hard to see your parents sick when you’re an adult. i hope he recovers in the next week without any long term issues. he will though, i know it. i’m just an anxious person. i’m a hypochondriac with myself, and i’m much worse with the people i love. i’m working from home for the next few days to help mom monitor him. today he seems better, but his voice is still a bit hoarse and he’s sleeping a lot. he needs some rest, he works non-stop. if there is anything positive that comes out of this, i am hoping it’s that he stops working so much and makes some time for himself to do more of the things he enjoys.

nhl playoffs, 5.3.22

the only time i’ve watched playoff hockey is when the hurricanes beat the oilers for the stanley cup growing up. last night, i watched the hurricanes smash the bruins 5-1. the more i watch hockey, the more i like it. i might even catch a game again when they come to boston this weekend.

we up 1-0 on the series, let’s go for the sweep fellas.

shybirds for lunch, 5.2.22

we went to shybirds today for lunch. it was tom, alan, and i. i got a double smash burger along with some fries and chicken bites. tom got a blt because he said his wife won’t allow him to eat bacon at home lol. alan got a chicken sandwhich. because we didn’t have much to do, we sat down and ate. tom said i have to make it to the cape because it’s beautiful. i looked at the pictures and it was a different kind of aesthetic, but i liked it. i’m warming up to this new england lifestyle, little by little. everything looks old and used, but there’s something special about this place. i can feel the significance of its presence in my life rising. the thing is i don’t want to have to look back for this place to be special, i wanna live in nostalgia now.

what a conundrum.

sleepy sundays, 5.1.22

all i did today was sleep. i might’ve taken ¾ naps. i finally got the nerve to walk btg while the sun was setting. then i went to china cuisine and to get some ice cream. i got the skrawberry cream soft serve. it was good. you know, i was thinking and it seems that western culture still finds ways to seep into my life. not that there’s anything wrong with western culture or american culture or that they haven’t had an effect on my life thus far, it’s that i’ve never cared for appetizers and desserts until recently. in 2018 i started to eat appetizers. within the last year, i’ve began eating desserts. i’ve always ate appetizer and dessert foods, but i didn’t have to have them before/after a meal. i quickly finished my orange chicken tonight so i could beat the closing for ice cream at a place in reading. it was fantastic.

going out to dinner, then grabbing dessert at a different place is such a pleasure in this life.

productive saturdays, 4.30.22

man, april was quiet but it went by quickly. today was a productive day. i washed my car, got some food, cut the grass, and took bagel to the park. i treated myself to wingstop after going to petsmart in woburn to get bagel some things for his bath i have planned for him either this weekend or next weekend. productive days give me a satisfaction that’s hard to top. it’s almost better than a day relaxing.

almost, but almost doesn’t cut it.

crime junkie marathon, 4.29.22

i’ve been binging crime junkies. spotify somehow deleted all the episodes i’ve played, so i’ve been replaying some without even realizing it. a case will seem familiar and as the ep goes on i’ll start remembering more, but i still can’t remember how things played out. it feels good hearing good cases for the first time again. i refinished the lipstick killer and it’s sad the guy spent his whole life in jail after being tortured during his interrogation. pretty much bodies were found dismembered and they got him because of his past burglaries. they caught him during an attempted burglary and when they searched his house they found a stolen nazi scrapbook that belonged to a neighbor of a family who had their daughter abducted/murdered on the same night. pretty much all the evidence was circumstantial and his confession was coerced. it’s hard to explain concisely, but it’s a good case to look up. today, i’ll go back into their archives and find another case to pass time while commuting from work.

i really am a crime junkie.

light bulb confusion, 4.28.22

my light went out last night on my ceiling fan. tonight i went to change the light bulb only to find out it’s not even a light bulb. i mean it might be, but i’ve never seen one like it. it’s late and i’m tired, plus i gotta make it to work at 6am tomorrow so this is looking like a weekend problem.

good thing i don’t need my ceiling light to sleep, right?

writing songs, 4.27.22

work has been so hectic. i’ve been getting up at 5am to leave at 6am to finish by 5pm only to fight traffic and get home a little after 6pm. then between walking bagel, eating dinner, and getting ready for the next day, it seems time is non-existent for the things i want to do. still, i find writing songs to be so enjoyable. i just wish recording was as enjoyable. maybe i’m just too hard on myself. it doesn’t help that i’m not used to hearing myself, so that’s one obstacle i’m still working around.

but i’d rather work around that obstacle than do what i’m doing at work.

the millennium puzzle, 4.26.22

i bought a model kit of the millennium puzzle. the wild part is there are no instructions on how to put it together. this was done by the manufacturer on purpose. looking at all these pieces, it’ll be difficult to put them together. they’re crazy different shapes. on the package it says yugi took 8 years to piece it together in the show, which i never knew.

i can’t even hold you, that’s what it’s looking like for me, too.

sick days, 4.25.22

last year, i took one sick day. it was the monday after my 2nd dose of moderna over the weekend. today i took my first of this year. i don’t know why, but i’ve been feeling tired lately. i didn’t get good sleep last night either. when i woke up for work, i said fuck it i’m taking a sick day. i’ve rested most of the day, but also cleaned up a good amount of things in the sneaker room. spring cleaning is looking like an ongoing affair this year. i’m challenging myself to get rid of things that no longer serve me, things i see value in but don’t value.

it’s tough, but it must be done.

oh and happy anniversary to my parents, 39 years!!!
