team jordans, 7.14.17

i haven’t had a friday night off or went shooting in who knows how long. tonight was the first time in a while i decided to explore a city that never seems to get old to me. after a lady handed me a flyer for a free cookie at an insomnia cookies location that just opened up, i was making my way towards the northern side of downtown when i saw a homeless man sleeping in an alley. if there’s something every major metropolitan area shares in common, it’s that there’s always a plethora of homeless people on every street, every corner, and every alley. i hate it. it hurts me if i have to be honest with you.

how crazy is it that people were having the time of their lives at the ball park enjoying a knight’s game and here was a homeless man most likely sleeping off his hunger with no place to go, a block away. the juxtaposition kills me, although at most i consider myself an observer with good intentions. he was in a white tee shirt, a pair of dirty jeans, and a pair of team jordan one’s. those were my first pair of jordan’s my father bought me in new york city before we moved back to north carolina in 2003.

i wonder if he wonders what’d it be like to be in my shoes, because as fucked up as it is, i’m thankful i’m in the shoes i’m in now.

i wish there was more i could do to contribute.
