the 4th, 7.4.17

spending the 4th downtown in raleigh was magnificent. it was a beautiful scene if i’d ever seen one. kids with glow sticks on the shoulders of their parents. the smell of food truck food. the joy. the laughter. not to mention the two sets of fireworks going off on both sides of the marriott on fayetteville street. every time i come back to the triangle, i’m reminded that there’s no place like it, no place like home. toward the end of firework display, engulfed by every single one of my observations, i began to tear up.

being human, emotions become strong beyond our control at times. as the night sky lit up with fireworks, i found it hard to be anything but grateful. here i was with someone i loved in the city i love surrounded by so. much. love. it’s not like i’ve ever been here before, in this moment, but i loved it so much i knew i’d miss it sooner or later, and that was enough to bring out the things i can’t control when i’m here.
