strangers at the bus stop, 2.1.18

while walking bagel around dilworth after his vet appointment, i saw an older woman and two older guys sitting on a bench waiting for the bus. i don’t know how to say this without sounding harsh, but they looked like they didn’t have much. as i passed, i waved to them and asked how they were doing. one of the gentlemen smiled and told me he was doing good and asked how i had been. i joked saying i was trying to get a walk in and beat the rain as i pointed up to the grey clouds moving in from a distance. he smiled again and i told him to take care. he said it was good seeing me again, knowing we both had never seen each other before. that interaction made my day. the genuine words and smile of a stranger who seemingly had much less than i did made me feel like my problems were of unimportance and entitlement.

more times than none, our lives are much more manageable than we think.
