false confessions, 1.24.18

my girl put me on to the confession tapes on netflix and that show is brazy-brazy. It’s a show revolving around police coercing individuals to confess to a crime they feel they did not do. it’s an interesting look at the psychology of humans under extreme scrutiny, anxiety, and stress. it’s easy to say we won’t admit to something we know we didn’t do, but it’s much more difficult to look at things from an objective stand point. we’ve all been victims to the effects of anxiety, pressure, and nerves at one point or another. Wild thing is most of the episodes i’ve seen so far, someone was convicted based off of a coerced confession rather than evidence.

all in all i’ve learned prosecutors have their own personal motives, too. and that should be a crime as well.
