dad took us to downtown rochester to show us
where he and mom lived and where he would bike to and from on his way to
techinical school. i didn’t even know he went to technical school. the
dedication he had to improving his life as well as ours is simply second to
none. biking in minnesota winters can be extremely harsh. he went from a
refugee with no american formal education to his ged, to tech school, to his
bachelor’s, to his master’s, to his doctorate’s, to his phd from duke. it’s
humbling for me to see where the american dream started for him. here i am
leaps and bounds ahead of him (due to him) and i still can’t seem to get a grip
on where my life is going. that ride in downtown rochester today inspired me,
motivated me, and made me even more appreciative for what life is for not only
me, but for us.
time for me to step up.
