last week at orientation, there was a white
gentleman walking around i recognized. i didn’t know him personally, but i
knew him from somewhere. i couldn’t figure out where though. today, while with
my resident in a common area, a worker came and sat him down at one of the
chairs. she shook his hand and said ‘i’ll see you later coach.’ at that moment,
i realized who he was. i was shocked, in disbelief! this gentleman coached my
favorite team, and my favorite player at one point in time. i won’t say who out of privacy concerns, but this
was unreal to me. he kept staring at me, and when someone walked behind my
resident and i, he asked me if it was someone’s father. i told him it was and
he shook his head at me. i couldn’t believe i had interacted with him. this was
such a surprise, and i’m still shocked typing this. life is insane in
ways we may never understand, but one thing is for sure, and that one thing is
that life happens to all of us in one way or another in every moment we’re
fortunate enough to be alive.
i just hope we make the most of what we have, while we can.
