i finally made it to alex’s barber shop today in pineville to get my hair cut. during the cut, an older black guy walks in with his son. all three of us begin talking rap, and top 10’s come up. the older i’m growing, the more i’m realizing music is a generational thing (duh) in terms of subjectiveness within the realm of greatness. alex, who is only a few years older than me, doesn’t even have kanye in his top 10, although he admits ye is a top 5 producer. the older black guy didn’t even have weezy or ye in his top 10. weezy and ye are in my top 5!!! weezy greatest rapper of all-time in my opinion in terms of versatility, lyrics, punch-lines, and influence. yeezy the most influential rapper of all-time in my opinion in terms of cultural influence from fashion, to music, to art, to everything in between.
that’s the great thing about art and perception is that meaning may be different to all of us, but it effects each and everyone of us in the same manner.
(weezy the goat, and the ye the most influential though. i ain’t lettin up.)
