indeed last month an american robin made a nest in the dryer vent. a few weeks ago, money asks me if my clothes have been smelling after using the washer/dryer. i told him they have and that it’s the dryer because when i opened it, the smell was horrible. we cleaned out the lint from the dryer, as well as the dryer hose and vent. still, the smell lingered. we made a maintenence call last week and the gentleman who came to inspect, pulled out a lot of sticks/leaves from the vent. he dropped them on the ground in front of the back window then finishes by installing a cage. he told me it was rare that birds form nests in dryer vents because of the heat, but it’s common for them to build nests in other vents such as bathroom vents. he leaves, and throughout the week i’ve been doing laundry sporadically. everything is all good and the clothes don’t smell, but….when i took bagel out to pee today, i examined some of the nesting he dropped, as it hadn’t moved. turns out a baby robin had died in the vent. there was only one, and it was laying there with its beak open. i wonder what happened to the rest of the baby robins. they couldn’t have flown away, so did the mother forget about him? or was he too hard to get out in time if coincidentally someone had run the dryer while she was transporting the rest of her babies? that shit is so sad.
i know nature takes its course, but this course can be brutal at times.
