the kobe 7 statue, 1.12.22

i like collecting different things such as figures, plushes, sneakers, etc. but my favorite is promotional items. promotional items have stories to them. they were manufactured for a store display or they were given out at a product launch or perhaps they were gifted to executives/team members a part of the project. when i got my black mamba usb for the kobe vi, i went to worthpoint to google other promotional items that sold for anything kobe related to nike. worthpoint is an archive of things sold on ebay. people use it to assess value of what they’re selling, and buyers use it to assess prices of items they are interested in.

a few months ago, a nike kobe 7 metal statue was put up for $10,000. i thought it was so cool that i put it on my watchlist. the seller offered it for $6,500, but i wasn’t interested in paying that much. last week, an identical statue went up for sale on ebay. the bid began at $99.00. i thought it was finna skyrocket, but still i kept an eye on it. tonight, as the auction ended, i decided to put my bid in. i called e and consulted with him about the item. i put what i thought was a low bid and told myself if it’s meant to be, it’ll be. i end up winning it for $153.50, which to me is a steal. crazy thing is the guy shipped it this morning. it should be here by end of week, if not early next week so i’ll take photos when it comes in.

i’ve been selective with my displays lately, but this is a grand piece for the collection no doubt about it.
