the home depot door, 6.5.22

dad and i went to home depot in reading to purchase a sliding backdoor. he’s going to replace it this year, and apparently it’s expensive. they want $2k for installation, and the door itself is $2k. the thing is, they didn’t have one of the pieces we needed. the alternative, which worked itself out, was going to the home depot in new hamshire because there is no tax there. when we pulled up, they had all the parts we needed, plus the door itself was nearly $200 cheaper. while we were looking at things, an older white gentleman walked by us and started talking to us about the doors we were looking at. he told us we needed this, that, this, that, and this. if we wanted blinds, we would need this along with this. i thought it was mad random, but before he left, he said he had just clocked out and it seemed like we needed some guidance. that was so kind of him. later when we went to check-out, the worker only scanned one of the main 4 items. he scanned the 2nd to least expensive item. then he told us our total. so not only did we walk out paying no tax, we walked out paying 1/3 of the price we expected to. my dad felt bad, but i told him when a blessing falls in your lap, just accept it.

my dad is the greatest individual, he deserves more of these breaks in his favor.
