the great dane, 7.7.25

i’ve only had the opportunity to see a great dane in person a few times. the first was when i was young and my family lived in warwick. my brother had a friend that he used to hang out with. this friend ironically knew an older sibling of the girl i had a crush on who also lived up the street. anywaysk, when my mom would drop or pick my brother up from his friend’s house, we would see his great dane his family had. the dog was humongous, almost like a horse. the second time i would see a great dane was at the dog park in charlotte that bagel and i used to go to. the third time would be today. as i’m driving through the star market parking lot going home from work, i see someone tied their great dane to a tree outside. it was a mild, overcast day, so he was chilling but he was so big. i couldn’t believe it. dogs are an interesting case study because they’ve gotta be the most genetically diverse species. humans have different races and ethnicities. we’re all pretty much the same, but dogs have so much diversity from shape, color, size, etc.

even though i’m not as small as i was when i first saw a great dane, they’re still as magnificent now as they were when i was a kid.
