one of my favorite things about commuting to work with dad is catching up with him. specifically, i enjoy the stories he tells of his experience back in cambodia and coming to the united states. this morning, i asked how was it coming to minnesota from cambodia in terms of the climate difference, from tropical to tundra so to speak. he said it wasn’t bad, but he had never seen snow. mom would bring up how everyone said america was beautiful, but she noticed the trees didn’t have leaves seeing as they came in late winter lol. dad told the story of how a family member asked him to walk to the store with him, and as they walked, it was around 3 miles. he said he was freezing, but they adjusted as they had to. then on the way home, i mentioned how i liked the job although it’s more chemistry than i had done in undergrad. i told him i didn’t do well in organic chemistry the first exam, and he said ironically that is the subject he did well in. apparently there was a grader that had long hair who had a booming voice. one day as he was grading tests, he said “bounthon went to town again.” being new to the states, he didn’t understand the slang, so dad told me he didn’t know what the hell he was saying. dad would think, what do you mean went to town, i am here in front of you. that made me laugh so hard.
oh and as planned, i ate the costco salad with balsamic vinaigrette today.
being that it’s friday, what a stellar day it was heading into superbowl weekend.
