sadness in the neighborhood, 10.20.20

last thursday night (morning) as i was asleep for bagel’s early dilworth appointment, i woke to sirens around 2-2:30am, i think. i can’t remember specifically what time it was, but it was in the early morning. i remember thinking how close they sounded and how they wouldn’t go away. i was groggy, but i kept my eyes closed and ended falling back asleep some time later. i didn’t think much of it and went about my business the next morning.

tonight, i hear rustling beneath my window at the bushes. when i go to look out, bagel is at the window on high alert mode. i see two animals. one small white one going to where the bunny nest used to be. that one laid down. then i see a larger, darker/grey animal make their way down the hill to the bushes. it sounds strange, but it looked to be moving like a caterpillar, slowly, dragging. it was pitch black, but i assumed they were dogs. i logged on to the neighborhood app to see if there were any missing dogs. there were a few, most reunited thank god, but what i came across was a house across the street from coach’s had burned down. worst part is one person died and a firefighter was injured. that’s why the sirens were so close last thursday. that’s why they were prolonged. what a sad day in the neighborhood.

and to think i was going through things…
