on the trails with bagel today, i noticed a squirrel off-trail, climbing with its front two legs up to a nearby tree. he was dragging his hind legs. they seemed to be broken from what i assumed to be a result of falling from a nearby tree. as i approached him, he began shaking and making noises. i noticed his claws were very sharp. i took a step back and google searched for any guidance on how to handle this situation. one result offered to put a towel over the squirrels head and handle with gloves to the nearest vet. i didn’t have either, so i looked for other options. by the time i concluded my search for viable resolutions, he had made his way back a little closer to the trees. i felt bad. i felt helpless, so i looked in the general vicinity for nuts and food to toss in his direction. i placed a handful of nuts near a tree he seemed to be headed towards.
i hope that helped in some way, i’m just never sure what to do at times.
