running loose, 12.22.18

since moving across the railroad tracks, i’ve noticed people in this neighborhood seem to not worry too much about their dogs. on my second walk with bagel, i see a medium-sized black dog running with a broken tie-out cable around his neck. he’s gotten out a few times before, so i recognized what house he belonged to. i ring the doorbell and knock, and the neighbors answer. they’re such kind people, and the gentleman introduced himself to me. told me he had a gas leak earlier in the day and that they fixed it but forgot to turn the gas back on. the lady thanked me multiple times throughout our conversation before i went on my way. as i was walking home i kept thinking of how genuine and kind they were, yet i wished they took care of their dog with more vigilance and love? i’m trying hard not to judge, and maybe it’s just me, but i view bagel in such a different light. i have to know how he is and where he is at all times.

everyone’s different, i guess.
