bagel and i haven’t been on a full walk in a little over 2 months. this past week we’ve been easing into it, walking to the apartments and back. on our evening walk earlier, i told myself not to have any expectations, but to be open to walking a longer walk if bagel so chooses. i don’t normally let btg walk in front of me, but tonight i let him lead. he remembered our walking route, and his energy was good. we walked a little over an hour. during the last quarter, i saw a neighbor who i would see all the time. she was walking with her two kids. when we waved to each other, she asked where i had been because she hadn’t seen me. i told her about bagel and his leg injury and how we are now getting back to it. she asked if he was okay, and if bagel was doing better. that made my night. you never know what type of relationships you are building just by waving or acknowledging someone. there would be nights where i wondered about her, how she was doing, or about coach and what he has been up to. i also found it sweet how she took the time to genuinely ask about bagel. when i say it really made my evening, i mean it!
i enjoyed our walk tonight, i had missed the trails and the people who walk them.
i cannot wait until this becomes regular life again.
