marty ball, 2.9.21

i woke up to news that coach marty schottenheimer passed. it is indeed a sad day for football. coach schottenheimer is a legend. why san diego let him go after the 2006 season, i will never know. i was heated at the time, and i still am today now that phil has retired. 06′ was a season where we could’ve went all the way, and although our window was closing in the next few years regardless, coach schottenheimer would’ve kept that window open wider, much wider for the time being. hindsight is 20/20, as is life. i want to thank coach for leading one of my favorite chargers teams ever, the 06’ san diego superchargers, to one of their greatest seasons. what a life you have led, and what a legacy you leave behind. i’ll always remember running into you during volunteer for my gerontology class and being so star struck.

a year later and i’m still star struck thinking of that moment.

thanks for everything, coach.
