layoffs, 7.15.25
today, they called a townhall meeting at 10:30am. it lasted 10 minutes and was an announcement of layoffs. thank God, my team wasn’t involved, but it still doesn’t feel good. they’re terminating folks in waves of 3 starting in september. so much so, everyone remaining will be moved to the third floor and they’ll relinquish the lease on the second floor. the crazy part is i’m an employee and i didn’t know until this morning, but last night i saw on the biotech subreddit that gsk was going through a reorg soon. then today, the news comes out. one of the comments asked if the rumor came from a reputable source and the original poster responded that it was ‘reputable information just in today.’ i wonder how they knew and who it was that posted that. it’s a sad time to be a part of gsk, especially at binney street. the biotech industry is not in a good position right now, but i wonder if it ever was to begin with. perhaps in sometime before me, but one thing is for sure, and it’s that everyone here deserved better than to have less than a 24-hour notice before this announcement. in corporate america, or at my job at least, they want you to move like a family as this boosts morale and productivity, but as soon as they decide so, it’s business is business.
what a terrible (and confusing) way to do things.
