when i arrived at professor goff’s creek clean up in pineville, there were 2 hip wader boots left. out of all the times i’ve cleaned up creeks, i’ve never wore waders, but one was size 11 (my size) so i tried it out. little did i know i’d need it. there was so much trash in the creek we spent 3 hours at one spot moving wood and trash out the way. there was a basketball, a soccer ball, and plenty of foam. you’d be surprised at how much trash we cleaned up in a few hours. there was a glass pepsi bottle from at least the 1980’s. it’s unbelievable. at one point, i was sitting on a tree stem over the creek and i fell in. there was mad trash and bugs in in my waders and i got wet up to my stomach. i was so dirty by the end of it all, but it was fun as hell and also productive.
i’d like to think i’m making a difference, no matter how minuscule the scale may be.
you’d be surprised at how far effort can take you in this life.
