grey jeeps at the vet, 3.15.19

i took bagel to the vet this morning for his annual check up, also to check two fatty lumps on his body. one is on the left side of his rib cage near his armpit, the other is at the bottom of his rib cage near his tummy. the doctor did two fine-needle aspirations and they came back as lipomas, fortunately. there was difficulty drawing his blood, but we finally got it towards the end of the visit. that’s besides the point though.

when i arrived, i let bagel pee on a bush near the building. as bagel was sniffing for his choice of spot, a couple came out of the vet. the girl’s face was red and she was bawling. i already knew what had happened. as they walked to their car, which was a grey jeep parked two spots from bagel and i, they sat in there for a few moments. i peeped at them and the guy was still consoling the girl. about 30 seconds later, they drove off.

every pet owner and pet eventually has to face a fate in which they can no long be with their companions any longer in this physical world, but through love and memory they never really leave our side, as distant as they seem.

i wish it wasn’t this way, but i’ve come to the conclusion it’s better for us to be hurt than them.
