first they killed my father was a masterpiece. my parents and i never talk about their experience during the genocide, but now that i’m older, i find myself more curious. i couldn’t help but to think of them the whole time while watching the movie. their lives have a beautiful redemption to it, and i feel i owe a lot to them. i cried at the end not only because it was based on a true story, but because it was real-life at one point for my parents.
millions of others, too.
