my dad, uncle dave, and i got lunch at a
vietnamese place a block and a half away from work. the sandwhich was good,
plus it was nice enough to eat outside. we ate under the cambridge sun and
talked about a variety of things. uncle dave told a story of how he used to
volunteer at a homeless shelter in omaha, and that this lady who was a former
lawyer turned alcoholic got so used to sleeping in the cold, but that one night
when it was -10 degrees, she came in the shelter to get a space. she ended up
opening the windows to let the air in her room from the outside because she had gotten so accustomed to sleeping in the winter weather. my dad
mentioned how one of his coworkers used to wear shorts starting at 30-40
degrees as that was comfortable for him. this stemmed from my dad mentioning
how when he lived in the south, when someone would mention 50-60 degree days,
he would think chilly, but now 50-60 feels good in the summer. i don’t know if
i am getting used to the weather up here or what, but eating lunch outside felt
nice. it was a bit too windy for my liking, but i didn’t mind the temperature
of 57 one bit.
perhaps i am getting acclimated, come to think of it.
