i picked mom and grandpa up from the train station on north tryon today. we went to eat at thai house on wt blvd. i am so happy to see them. it’s been so long since i’ve seen mom, and even longer since i’ve seen grandpa. come to think of it, the last time i saw grandpa was in 2011 when i graduated high school! 2011!! i’m a different person now! well, maybe not, but you get the point. as we’re eating, grandpa pulls out a watch from his pocket and hands it to me. it’s an 18k square-faced watch he said he bought a long time ago. even though he told me to get it cleaned, the watch still shined in the dimly lit restaurant. i’m bad with receiving gifts, so i told him he should keep it for himself, but he insisted. grandpa said he wanted me to have it, so that’s why he brought it with him from stockton, to boston, to charlotte.
i can’t wait to get the watch cleaned and start rocking it. i know he didn’t get the watch in cambodia, so he must’ve gotten it shortly after he came to the states. there is family history in this piece of jewelry.
