today is patriot’s day, which resulted in a day
off for us at work so dad took us to a place on the southside of boston called
castle island. castle island is the location of the famous fort independence
that was used in world war i and ii. they have this circle roundabout that you
can walk, plus it was dog-friendly so we brought bagel along. he didn’t spazz on
other dogs too much, but he still enjoyed our afternoon at castle island. after
walking one round, mom, dad, bagel, grandpa, and i got something to eat a place
on the island called sullivan’s. we ate hot dogs, burgers, fries, chicken
tenders, you name it. they’ve been around since 1951, and it made me think
while eating about all these places that have been around for decades on
decades. let’s say sullivan’s is known for their lobster roll. they can keep
the original recipe since 1951, but suppliers change so it really wouldn’t be
the same exact sandwhich as it was in 1951. that’s what gets me. if i could
time travel, i’d spend my weekends going to different places at different
times. i wonder what burger king tasted like in the 80’s or what olive garden
tasted like in the 90’s. it’d also be neat to find small mom and pop eateries
that have closed throughout time, because i’ve found those hole-in-the-wall
places have the best food.
though i can’t due to technological restrictions, sullivan’s is damn good and will do for now.
