while sniffing candles on a dreary charlotte day at ollie’s, a senior white man approaches us with his button up tucked in his khakis. he looks at us and says it’s so sad that on the news this morning they reported over 200k people died from covid-19. he then says no more kissing until all of this is over. as he says that we all begin laughing while he leans back and puts his hand our shoulders. although that may have been our only interaction with each other in our lives, that easily made my day.
and although i didn’t let him know it did, i hope the universe finds a way to tell him by chance, luck, or perhaps by a friendly stranger that’ll make his day sometime in the future.
