training and living with dogs is one of the most rewarding experiences i feel one can immerse themselves in. besides surface-level and face-value issues, it’s difficult trying to show a dog boundaries they have discretion over. today at the dog park in pineville was one of the dopest moments i’ve witnessed from bagel.
bagel isn’t food aggressive or possessive. he knows what is and isn’t his, and what is allowed and isn’t allowed. i bring my own water bowl to the dog park so bagel has fresh water guaranteed. a lot of dogs come and drink from the bowl, and i don’t mind, neither does bagel. there was a dog who had the body of gsp, but was black instead of brown. he came up and took milo’s bowl and began walking away. then he saw bagels bowl and picked the bowl up with his mouth, pouring all the water on the ground, and began walking away. as soon as he begins walking away bagel immediately corrects him on the neck and he drops the bowl and runs off. that to me is beautiful. bagel showed discretion, and assertiveness without showing dominance. the crazy thing is that same dog, along with many others, was drinking from bagel’s bowl throughout our duration at the dog park and bagel had no issue with it! the second he tried to run off with the bowl, bagel stood his ground and gave him boundaries.
i love it. definitely a moment i’ll remember for a long time.
