a trail of blood, 12.19.20

when i got home from work last night, i changed shoes and walked btg to the culdesac and back twice. when we got in, bagel ran upstairs excited as ever to eat. i got to the stairs and noticed a red dot on the carpet. i swiped my finger on it. it was still wet and when i smelled it, it smelled like metal. it had to be blood. as i went to my room, there was a trail of blood. there were fresh, small puddles in my room. i was uneasy, a bit more than usual because i picked up listening to crime junkies just today. i looked at bagel, and he was sitting with his tail wagging on my bed. i looked at his paw, and he was bleeding hella from his front right paw. i stopped the bleeding by cleaning his nail and putting pressure from the bottom of his nail bed. i posted on the dog nail maintenance group i’m a part of on facebook, and they were so helpful. they said it wasn’t as serious as a cracked nail, but to stop the bleeding and bandage it up. i put neosporin on it and wrapped it with a bandaid. i went to petsmart to pick up pet boots for him to wear for the moment so he doesn’t lick it. so far, so good. earlier tonight i picked up some styptic powder from petco in case something like this ever happens again although i hope it won’t. but it’s still good to be prepared just in case.

i wonder how his quick ruptured in the first place…
