i still remember where i was when 9/11 happened.
it was in our house in warwick, new york and my mom was in the kitchen cleaning
up. she had the tv on. there was a tower that was hit and i could see the
burning from the plane crash live. then another one hit. my mom walked me to
the end of the driveway where i got picked up to go to school. i didn’t make
much of it at the time because i was a kid, and because my best friend andrew’s
birthday was 9/11 i was more focused on our plans after school. the new few weeks,
they put a clear teddy bear jar in the cafeteria for donations to the families
of the victims of the twin tower attacks. i told my parents and they gave me
some money to put in the jar. that’s really all i remember at this point, but i
have a 9/11 book i look through every once in a while sitting on my tv stand.
i get goosebumps thinking about how unreal it feels, even 18 years later.
