tupac on a saturday, 5.6.23

money texted me this morning asking if i’ve seen the tupac documentary on hulu. i told him i hadn’t and he told me it’s a must watch. i definitely need to peep in between watching the nba playoffs and catching up on breaking bad. when i came downstairs to do some writing, i had my itunes on shuffle. a pac song, heaven ain’t hard to find, came on and i forgot how much i love pac. he’s one of the main inspirations of why i started writing in the first place. from venting, to personal narratives, to writing to figure out how i feel, a lot can be credited to him. plus, he was one of the only rappers who rapped about women. drake is another one, and guess who are two of my favorites. i had to go on amazon to order bagel’s toothpaste and i added tupac’s poetry book to my cart as well.

the book should be here tomorrow, but i might start the documentary in the meantime.

cinco chorizo, 5.5.23

happy cinco de mayo. i usually don’t celebrate because i don’t drink, but we went out for lunch to naco taco today in honor of mexicans and my dog alan. i get there and i don’t know what to get, but i do know i’m getting tacos. my preference is ground beef tacos as basic and uncultured as that sounds, and of course, naco taco didn’t have them. i got two chickens and a chorizo. i asked alan what chorizo was and he said it was a sausage pretty much. when the tacos came out, they were as good as they looked. the best part was the chorizo was better than the chicken joints. i might have found my new go to, plus it’s ground sausage so it’s got the same consistency as ground beef.

naco taco might’ve did something to me this cinco de mayo.

fan on, 5.3.23

i’ve never been one to sleep with the fan on. especially in my room because i’ve always had the irrational (sometimes rational) fear a ceiling fan would be bound to fall on me while i slept. with the weather warming up, my room has been, too. for the past two years, i’ve realized the circulation in my room is much different than anywhere else in the house. it’s always substantially warmer. this year, i think i’ve had enough lol. i’ve been turning the fan on before i fall asleep as the only way i sleep is out of exhaustion or if i’m a little chilly. it was a little cold last night, so i opted not to turn on the fan. after laying in bed for a few minutes, i had to get up to turn the fan on. within an hour of doing so, i was drifting in and out of sleep. when i woke up this morning, it hit me that i’m slowing turning into one of those people who sleeps with the fan on. maybe it’s a seasonal thing, or perhaps it’s just a thing these days.

the true test will be what happens when the winter comes.

rainy sundays, 4.30.23

i didn’t sleep much, if at all, last night. i woke up to pouring rain. ironically, i love the rain. i love waking up to it and going to sleep to it. there’s nothing better than spending a rainy day at home, moving slow with the time. even better when it’s with someone you love. in my case, it was with bagel today. it sucks we couldn’t go for a walk, but we found ways to keep each other company. today is the 4th anniversary of the school shooting. i remember that day so vividly. i left campus an hour before. when i got home, i was so tired i knocked right out. ironically, i had the local news on television as i fell asleep. i woke up to texts and calls, it was unreal. it took a while for things to settle in. i wrote about my accident a few days ago saying it was hard to believe it’s been 6 years since then, but it’s also difficult to believe it’s been 4 years since the shooting. uncc unveiled a memorial, and i definitely will have to visit when i’m down in the city in two weeks.

just some rainy-day thoughts and reflections.

ps. if you’re reading this, i hope your sunday is going better than mine.

linkedin connections, 4.29.23

i’ve never made a linkedin and i never want to make one. i’ve always felt if i made one, then that’d signify the end of doing something greater than a 9-5 with my life. anyways, money calls me today as he is returning a pressure washer. he says i wouldn’t guess who viewed his linkedin profile. i had no clue so he told me it was a former duke player. it ended up being chris duhon. that was mad random, but that was kinda crazy. apparently duhon lives in charlotte and has brushed shoulders with a few people money used to work with. i’m always amazed when i hear of these types of things because they say you are only 6 (maybe 7?) degrees of separation from anyone in this world. i know money, money knows his older coworker, his old coworker knows chris duhon, and chris duhon knows coach k. that’s 4 degrees of separation, which is crazy!

i know i got off topic, but basically fuck linkedin and making one.

the winning team, 4.29.23

towards the end of the night at dave & busters, i had to calm my addiction to the claw machine. i was determined to get the scooby doo plush. when i did, i wanted more so i went after a garfield plush. it took me bout damn at least 50 tries to get both, but it was worth it. it’s nothing more exciting than seeing the claw drop a prize in the door. jennifer was able to win a cheese plush. alan was able to win a bugs bunny and sylvester plushes. then priyank finished the night winning a green cow plush. we all left winners, plus the lakers knocked off memphis to move to the 2nd round by 40. i’d say tonight was as successful as it was going to get. i just got home about 30 minutes ago, but i’m still amped off winning the claw machine, though in reality, i could’ve bought these plushes for $5 bucks a pop probably so from a financial standpoint, this was a poor investment.

i guess that’s the price of winning.

sura on a friday, 4.28.23

work was busy as hell, especially for a friday. from the moment i walked in until i left, it was nonstop. that was even with our friday meeting cancelled. at least yesterday i caught up on my trainings through august, so that helped with the lab work and the housekeeping. the good thing is tonight we’re going to sura. i’m looking forward to it because i’ve been eating salad for lunch the past two days which makes galbi a well-deserved treat for dinner.
